Election observers under the aegis of the Coalition of Rights Groups and Election Monitors have commended the conduct of the recent bye-elections in Kaduna State, describing the exercise as free, fair, and transparent.
The observers, who monitored the process across different local government areas, described the polls as a remarkable improvement in Nigeria’s democratic journey, citing transparency, voter participation, and peaceful conduct as key indicators of credibility.
In a joint statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday, the groups noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) performed satisfactorily by ensuring timely arrival of materials, adherence to guidelines, and prompt transmission of results.
“The Kaduna elections set a positive example in the North-West,” said Dr. Amina Mohammed, spokesperson of the Civil Rights and Democracy Watch (CRDW). “Our observers reported minimal cases of irregularities, and those were not significant enough to affect the overall outcome. The people of Kaduna spoke clearly, and their votes counted.”
Similarly, the Network of Election Observers (NEO) commended security agencies for maintaining order during the exercise.
“We observed professionalism from security operatives across polling units. Their presence reassured voters and discouraged malpractice,” stated Mr. Peter Okafor, NEO’s National Coordinator.
The groups further congratulated Governor Uba Sani on his victory, urging him to carry all stakeholders along in delivering dividends of democracy. They also called on opposition parties to respect the will of the people and join hands in building a peaceful and prosperous Kaduna State.
With this endorsement from both local and international monitors, Governor Uba Sani’s mandate has received additional legitimacy, reinforcing confidence in the democratic process.
A support group under the aegis of Kyari Likeminds has expressed concern over what it described as the “growing culture of politicising the legacies of dedicated public servants,” following reports linking former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, to allegations of financial impropriety.
In a statement signed by the groups Director of Publicity, Abdullahi Sabiu and made available to journalists on Wedneday evening, the group cautioned against what it called the “trial of reputations in the court of public opinion,” stressing that no amount of political maneuvering should be allowed to diminish Kyari’s record of service to the nation.
According to the group, it has become a disturbing trend in Nigeria for politicians to target technocrats and senior civil servants after their exit from office, weaponising media narratives to undermine their legacies.
“Mele Kyari gave his best years to the service of this country, steering the oil and gas sector through some of its toughest moments. His reforms, transparency drive, and push for energy security remain undeniable. To now see his name repeatedly dragged into political battles is both unfair and unfortunate,” the statement read in part.
The group also took a swipe at sections of the media, accusing them of gullibility and sensationalism. It argued that in the rush to publish breaking headlines, many outlets often lend themselves to political propaganda without waiting for facts to be tested or cases concluded in competent courts.
“Media houses must rise above being conduits of half-truths and politically motivated leaks. Responsible journalism demands context, balance, and restraint, particularly when the reputations of individuals who have served the nation at the highest levels are at stake,” the group added.
While noting that it would refrain from making comments on matters already before the courts, Kyari Likeminds maintained that the current wave of attacks fits into a larger pattern of attempts to demonise technocrats who refuse to play along with entrenched political interests.
The statement urged Nigerians to distinguish between genuine accountability processes and politically inspired campaigns of calumny, adding that posterity would ultimately judge public servants like Mele Kyari by their contributions, not by “the noise of the moment.”

The Department of State Services (DSS) has yesterday night struck a major blow against electoral malpractice in Kaduna, arresting a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) agent, Shehu Fatange, with a staggering cash of about ₦30 million allegedly set aside to buy votes in today’s bye-elections.
Fatange was apprehended Friday evening at a hotel in Kaduna metropolis, where he was coordinating the illicit distribution of funds to sway voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency poll.
According to impeccable security sources, the suspect was caught red-handed with the money, which investigators believe was meant to compromise the integrity of the elections and tilt the outcome in favour of his party.
The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the arrest. Its spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the suspect was in custody and under investigation, stressing that security agencies were working hand-in-hand to ensure a free, fair and credible election.
The dramatic bust comes against a backdrop of rising tension, with parties trading accusations of desperate politicians’ planned vote-buying, thuggery to rig the bye-elections in Chikun/Kajuru, Zaria and Sabon-Gari constituencies.
While details of the sting remain under wraps, the DSS and police assured that investigations are ongoing, urging voters to stay calm and troop out peacefully to exercise their franchise today.
A fresh case of alleged extrajudicial killing has sparked outrage in Barnawa, Kaduna State, after personnel of a security task force reportedly shot a young boy, Abubakar, at point-blank range.
The bereaved father, speaking with deep anguish, recounted that the operatives stormed the community, prompting residents to scatter in fear. He said he told his son not to run, believing there was nothing to fear. Moments later, an operative allegedly grabbed Abubakar from behind, drew a pistol, pressed it to his head, and fired — killing him instantly.
“This was not an accident; it was an execution,” the father said, calling for those responsible to face the full weight of the law.
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, visited the grieving family to offer condolences and condemned the killing as “an indefensible and barbaric act that violates every principle of human rights and the sanctity of life.”
Sani called on the Kaduna State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Human Rights Commission to urgently investigate the matter, prosecute the killer, and end what he described as “a growing culture of impunity” among some security agents.
“This was somebody’s child, not a statistic,” he said. “Justice for Abubakar is justice for every Nigerian who believes in the rule of law.”
The Human rights activist say the case underscores a worrying pattern of security forces using lethal force against unarmed civilians — a trend that continues to erode public trust and fuel tensions in vulnerable communities.
Politics is about choices, and sometimes, the easiest choice is also the wisest. In Kaduna Central Senatorial District—covering Giwa, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, Birnin Gwari, Chikun, and Kajuru—the 2027 race is already tilting towards one man: Comrade Senator Shehu Sani.
Not because he is the loudest, but because history, character, and political reality have all conspired to place him at the centre of this moment. Amidst other aspirants like Mallam Aminu Zaria and Rt. Hon. Yusuf Zailani, the people seem poised to make the simplest political decision in recent memory—returning Shehu Sani as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A Reputation Forged in Struggle From the days of military rule, when speaking truth to power could mean the end of one’s life, Shehu Sani stood tall. His activism was not born from the comfort of office, but from the trenches of Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle. Kaduna knows this. Giwa’s farmers know this. The artisans of Kaduna North remember. The traders of Kaduna South, the pastoralists of Birnin Gwari, the market women of Chikun, and the hardworking youths of Kajuru have all witnessed a man who has never been afraid to challenge injustice.
Why APC Needs Shehu Sani Now 2027 is not just another election—it’s a defining moment for APC in Kaduna Central. The opposition is regrouping. PDP, ADC and other parties will throw money, propaganda, and every divisive tactic they can muster. What the APC needs is not just a candidate—it needs a brand strong enough to neutralize all that noise.
Shehu Sani is that brand.
In Giwa, his grassroots appeal cuts across partisan lines; he is seen as a man who fights for farmers’ rights. In Kaduna North, his voice has been loud in calling for infrastructure and youth empowerment. In Kaduna South, his defence of religious tolerance has given him support across faith lines. In Igabi and Birnin Gwari, his consistency in calling for better security earns him respect in communities that live daily under threat. In Chikun and Kajuru, his humanitarian interventions have been felt in rural and urban settlements alike. The Unbeatable Political Math Political strategy is about numbers and loyalty. With Shehu Sani:
The APC secures crossover votes from people who ordinarily wouldn’t vote APC. His existing national profile strengthens Kaduna’s voice in Abuja. His history of philanthropy and human rights advocacy means he campaigns with trust already built in. Mallam Aminu Zaria is intelligent. Rt. Hon. Yusuf Zailani is a grassroots mobilizer But Kaduna Central knows that in 2027, sentiment will play a bigger role than political CVs—and the sentiment is overwhelmingly in Shehu Sani’s favour.
The Mood in the Streets Talk to the tea vendors in Tudun Wada, the mechanics in Kakuri, the okada riders in Sabon Tasha, the farmers in Giwa, and the women traders in Maraban Rido market—there’s a common refrain: “We know who can speak for us in Abuja without forgetting us here.”
That kind of organic support cannot be manufactured. It’s not the product of billboard campaigns or media blitzes; it’s the harvest of decades of standing with the people when it was neither profitable nor popular.
A Consensus Waiting to be Declared APC leaders in Kaduna Central have a rare opportunity. Instead of a bruising internal primary that fractures the party and gives the opposition an opening, they can rally around a candidate whose candidacy is already a unifying factor.
The signs are clear. The murmurs are growing. The political ground is shifting. In the hearts of many, the decision is already made: Comrade Senator Shehu Sani will be the APC’s consensus candidate for Kaduna Central in 2027.
Final thoughts The easiest political decision is not always the safest—but in 2027, it happens to be both. Returning Shehu Sani to the Senate is not just about rewarding past service—it’s about securing the future of Kaduna Central within the APC family.
And as someone who has watched our politics closely, I can say without fear of contradiction: the tide is moving, and it’s moving in one direction.

The Sokoto Democratic Youth Forum (SDYF) has come down hard on former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, over his recent comments seen as an attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a visit to Sokoto.
The Forum accused El-Rufai of fueling regional discord and reminded the public of his past controversial remarks about the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, as well as the arrest of Islamic cleric Sheikh Bello Yabo.
In a statement issued to journalists on Saturday, the Forum expressed dismay at El-Rufai’s political maneuvers, accusing him of attempting to manipulate northern sentiments against the President. They described his campaign against Tinubu as selfish and rooted in personal grievances rather than genuine concern for the people.
“We have not forgotten how El-Rufai insulted the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, nor have we forgotten how he ordered the arrest of respected Sokoto-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Bello Yabo. His visit to Sokoto is a provocation we totally reject,” the Forum stated.
The group criticized El-Rufai’s alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in what they described as a premature and desperate move to unseat President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
“There is no amount of insult or mobilisation that will discourage the average northerner from supporting President Tinubu. We have seen the bold steps he has taken to recover the economy, enhance security, and improve agricultural productivity across the country,” the statement read.
The Forum emphasized that Northern youths are now more politically aware and will not be manipulated by El-Rufai’s political theatrics. They called on youths across the 19 Northern states to disregard what they described as El-Rufai’s “failed coalition” and “personal vendetta.”
“Just because he didn’t get a ministerial appointment, El-Rufai has chosen to fight President Tinubu under the guise of a false coalition. We want to categorically state that we are in full support of the South completing its constitutionally guaranteed two-term tenure of eight years.”
The Forum concluded by reaffirming their commitment to national unity and democratic stability, stressing that political mischief will not derail the progress already made.
The Kaduna Central Stakeholders Forum has issued a strong rebuke against the lawmaker representing the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Lawal Adamu (popularly known as LA), accusing him of playing with the intelligence of his constituents and failing to live up to legislative expectations.
In a strongly worded statement, the Forum described Senator Adamu’s approach to governance as “superficial and misleading,” particularly criticizing his reliance on social media posts as a substitute for effective representation.
The statement signed by the Coordinator Dr .Mustapha Ibrahim Further reads:“Someone who can’t stand up in the Senate and speak on behalf of his people is pretending to be doing well by simply posting on Facebook,” the stakeholders lamented. “This is an insult to the intelligence of the people who voted him into office.”
Their reaction comes in the wake of a recent Facebook post by Senator LA in which he criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of neglecting the critical Abuja-Kaduna Expressway—a major artery connecting Northern and Southern Nigeria.
In the post, Senator Adamu reportedly wrote: “Renewed agony. You abandoned the Abuja-Kaduna road—a very important road that connects the economic growth of the North and Southern Nigeria—yet you are spending over 700 billion naira on an existing airport.”
While the senator’s post may have resonated with some of his online followers, the stakeholders argue that mere social media commentary without concrete action in the red chamber is hollow and unproductive.
They further urged the senator to take legislative responsibilities seriously and engage meaningfully in the National Assembly to address pressing issues affecting his constituents.
“Representation is not a Facebook popularity contest. Our people need action, not empty online rhetoric,” the Forum emphasized.
The Northern Professionals and Academics Forum (NPAF) has expressed strong support for recent remarks made by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s developmental strides in Northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day interactive forum on government-citizen engagement organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) at Arewa House in Kaduna, Governor Uba Sani did applaud President Tinubu’s unprecedented backing for state governments ,where he said,”No Nigerian President has supported governors like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Governor Sani stated. “No governor will oppose him.”
While the National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu highlighted significant improvements in the security architecture across Kaduna and neighboring states. He credited collaborative efforts between federal and state security task forces for the noticeable drop in incidents of banditry and kidnapping.
According to Ribadu, the enhanced security climate has restored confidence in road travel among government officials and citizens alike.
In a statement signed by its Head of Communications, Hajiya Fatima Bello, the NPAF lauded Governor Sani and NSA Ribadu for their “honest and factual” reflection of President Tinubu’s achievements.
The statement further read: “Those attacking them for speaking the truth are nothing but enemies of the North.
“We can see that our governors now have more resources to implement people-oriented projects and pay workers’ salaries on time.”
” It obvious that under Tinubu’s leadership, Northern Nigeria is experiencing sustained focus on critical areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
“Governor Uba Sani and Malam Ribadu have rightly highlighted these achievements, which align with our own assessments as professionals and scholars dedicated to the region’s progress.
NPAF commended President Tinubu’s “multi-dimensional approach” to development, describing it as a “blueprint for inclusive governance.
“We salute Governor Sani and Adviser Ribadu for spotlighting these successes, which are translating into real improvements in livelihoods and safety across the North.” it added.
However, the group cautioned that some individuals within the region continue to undermine the President’s efforts due to what it described as “unnecessary sentiments.”
