Kaduna, Nigeria – A Civic Advocacy group, the Kaduna Citizens for Justice and Accountability (KCJA), has condemned what it described as the “height of political hypocrisy” by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following his recent visit to the residence of ex-Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has drawn sharp rebuke from citizens who recalled El-Rufai’s aggressive persecution of Yero during his tenure.
In a scathing statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, KCJA described the visit as “an insult to the collective memories of Kaduna people,” citing El-Rufai’s alleged orchestration of trumped-up corruption charges that saw Yero dragged before the EFCC and paraded in the media without trial or conviction.
“El-Rufai sought to bury the legacy of Ramalan Yero by weaponizing state power to humiliate him. To now turn around and walk into the same man’s house pretending camaraderie is not statesmanship — it is shameless opportunism,” said Comrade Aliyu Makarfi, spokesperson for KCJA.
The group also slammed El-Rufai for his serial unfulfilled promises, particularly regarding the Zaria water project. According to KCJA, El-Rufai had in 2016 secured a public endorsement from then-President Muhammadu Buhari to fix Zaria’s chronic water shortage. The former governor followed up with elaborate budgetary allocations and fanfare, including what the group called “superfluous budget padding,” only to abandon the people of Zaria to continued suffering.
“After eight years in power and repeated budgetary provisions, El-Rufai left office without delivering clean water to the people of Zaria — a betrayal of trust of monumental proportions,” Makarfi said.
He then explained: “Contrary to El-Rufai’s spurious claims of progress, Governor Uba Sani met the Zaria water production rate had already collapsed to less than 5% due to badly dilapidated machinery rusty equipment and vandalised pipelines. However, Governor Uba Sani has since accelerated the rate of water production to 32%, after replacement of the vandalised pipelines and equipment and recalibration of all relevant drivers of the production process. In addition, works is still in progress for all forms of upgrade. The massive repairs have now exposed the falsehood of El-Rufai’s narrative.”
The group accused El-Rufai of using media optics and political theatre to mask failed promises and persecute perceived opponents. They urged current leaders to “learn from the consequences of prideful governance and manipulative leadership.”
Kaduna residents, especially in Zaria, have continued to bear the brunt of water scarcity despite billions reportedly earmarked for the so-called “Zaria Water Project,” raising questions about the sincerity and financial integrity of the previous administration.
The KCJA called on relevant anti-corruption bodies to revisit the El-Rufai-era contracts and alleged diversions tied to the Zaria project, warning that “those who deceived the people and looted in the name of development must not escape accountability.”
Controversies have continued to trend on both the social and mainstream media regarding the long relationship between Abdullahi Ishaq and his ex-boss Rtd AIG AbdurRahman. Over the weekend during a parley with media men in kano the trained Detective and ex PA to AIG AbdurRahman Rtd has again appeal to Governor Bala Muhammad and other relevant agencies to do justice to him following Petitions he wrote against his former boss for Defamation and Injustice. He said that even though he has already made the matter to the public knowing but some people close to AbdurRahman have reached out to him for mediation but still not ready to accede to the conditions he gave them.
He averred that despite having issues with AbdurRahman he still respects him but the only way things could resolve is AbdurRahman to apologize and withdraw the defamatory statement he made against him of investigating the Governor of Bauchi State. He expressed displeasure over AbdurRahman using an amateur hiding under a faceless group that is not even a legal entity to defend him. The most disheartening and disgusting aspect is one small rat challenging me to prove I am a trained Intelligence and Investigating personal or he takes a legal action against me. Also challenging to prove evidence of an appointment letter if really I was AbdurRahman’s PA.
He further admonished AbdurRahman to desist from talking about his ordeal in EFCC considering the fact the matter is yet to be decided by the court. Further comments on the EFCC issue the law shall take its course because nobody is above the law. Additionally you are going to defend the allegations leveled against me by your spokesperson Aliyu Musa Hydar saying you are the one who initiates the probe that truncated my job. I thank Allah for making such a confessional statement which reflects how wicked and heartless you are.
These are young men that have never met with AbdurRahman until Governor Bala Muhammad appointed him as CSA but just decided to ruin their future and career by directing them to defend him. Oga why can’t you engage your own children to defend you than using other people’s children? These are boys that have never attended a single court proceeding but they have the Gods to challenge me because their sponsors have already ridiculed me by telling them black and white about me. I am very sure these boys were just in Nursery school when I started serving AbdurRahman. I am advising AbdurRahman to stop using those amateurs to publish malicious stories against me or else our fight would take a new dimension. They don’t me, nor My antecedents it’s understood AbdurRahman is the one telling them all what they are publishing on me.
He further averred that his differences with his former boss was something that could be resolved in house but AbdurRahman opted to chew more than he can swallow by engaging faceless groups to attack him unjustly that is why the whole matter got out of control, Abdullahi added. The most ruthless and greatest threat affecting our country today is most young men don’t know their rights. Injustice has taken over the system, bullying, victimisation and witch-hunting is the order of the day. Instead of you fighting for your right friends and relatives would now refer you to “Tauhidi” saying ka bar wa Allah zai saka maka. Whoever subject you to any form of Injustice fight for your right my brother. In as much as you are doing it in good faith with God fearing no matter how long justice must prevail.
I am not fighting AIG AbdurRahman and I can’t fight him, I still respect him but I insist Justice must take its course against what he did to me no matter the intimidation or bullying he may think of as a result of our differences. I advised whoever is fighting for AbdurRahman to desist from doing that or else the matter goes beyond its present stage. Allah is sufficient for me, he will do justice to me since I am fighting for my right in good faith.

Coalition of over twenty advocacy groups under umbrella of Civil Society Coalition for Energy Transparency and Development in Nigeria (CSCEDN) have concluded arrangements to mobilise its members to headquarters of National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited ,Abuja next week for a Two-day massive protest against the former Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Engineer Mele Kyari over recent shutdown of Port Harcourt Refinery.
According to the group, the protests scheduled to hold on Monday and Tuesday is to demand for arrest and protection of the former NNPCL boss for what it described as “fraudulent overhaul maintenance” carried out on Port Harcourt Refinery under his management that hitherto led to recent shutdown for another round of maintenance.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently announced the shutdown of Unit 10 in Area 5 of the Port Harcourt Refinery (PHRC), officially citing sustainability concerns for scheduled maintenance. The Civil Society groups in a Press Statement made available to journalists in Kaduna, which expressed dismay over the shutdown of the facility, said it is a clear evidence that Kyari didn’t do anything to ensure sustainable operations. the maintenance work was just a fraud.
The statement jointly signed by Comrade Musa Ibrahim Gusau and Comrade Henry Rewane stated, “Most annoying is that the shutdown is coming six months after the refinery commenced truck loading of petroleum products following the $1.5 billion spent on rehabilitation.
The group said , ” The information gathered so far revealed that the shutdown was triggered by a combination of inconsistent product quality, poor maintenance cycles, and frankly an underwhelming performance .
The statement further reads: “During the planned protest, We will urge the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) to arrest and prosecute Kyari immediately as well as review all agreements entered into by the NNPCL during his administration .
“We are particularly angry and asking questions on behalf of Nigerians that why is it that after the initial overhaul maintenance gulped over $1.5 billion, the company shut down operations for another round of maintenance within just six months of resumption.
“The ‘old plant,’ which was commissioned in 1965, with a processing capacity of 60,000 barrels per day appeared to have become a conduit pipe for siphoning our money.
” After years of inactivity and failed multiple rehabilitation efforts, the refinery resumed operations on November 26, 2024, following a significant overhaul that cost $1.5 billion for the entire complex.
“We are going to ensure that the controversies surrounding the rehabilitation and recommissioning of the refineries by Kyari led management and billions of dollars spent without transparency are unraveled and made public.”
In a rare and heartfelt exchange that underscored the growing wave of hope and transformation sweeping across Southern Kaduna, the Acting Paramount Leader of Akulu Chiefdom, Chief Dr. Anthony Ayasal, hosted Hon. Victor Mathew Bobai, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Governor Uba Sani, in a private yet impactful conversation moderated by Privilege Magazine’s Kaduna Bureau Correspondent, Abraham Adeyemi.

Hon. Bobai, while reinforcing the message, urged the youth to join credible mobilization structures like the Tinubu-Uba Leadership Network (TULN).

In its continuous commitment at ensuring justice, fairness and equity in governance, especially for those who served the state in different capacities, at different times. The Kano State Government, under the able leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf has commenced payment of over N16 Billion outstanding gratuity, accommodation, leave/recess, housing, and furniture allowances to APC former councillors that served between 2014 to 2024, and current political office holders in the 44 Local Government Councils of the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who flagged off the payment excerise at a ceremony held in Kano on Wednesday said that the payment of the gratuity to the former APC councillors is not a privilege but a right and a show of appreciation for their service to the state adding that the action was based on justice and fairness.
This moment is not merely ceremonial; it symbolises our administration’s unwavering commitment to upholding dignity, fairness, and accountability in public service,” the Governor stated, adding that the initiative underscores the administration’s pledge to honour those who served and are still serving the state at the grassroots level.
He recalled that when the matter was tabled before the state executive council for consideration, members of the council were unanimous in approving the payment of gratuity to all the former councillors irrespective of party leaning adding that it was not right to deny people their rights especially after serving their people diligently, hence the resolve of NNPP administration to differ from the previous administration that denied the former Local Government legislators their right.
Governor Yusuf further noted that, councillors form 484 wards of the state’s 44 local governments councils who completed their tenure at different times, were denied their rights by the past APC administration, by refusing to pay them their gratuity saying “we can’t toe this line”.
The payments cover different categories of entitlements that remained outstanding for years, which affected former APC councillors, vice chairmen, chairmen, supervisory councillors, and special advisers.
The disbursements would be executed in structured phases:
Tranche A (2014–2017): 903 beneficiaries would receive ₦1.8 billion and disbursed immediately.
Tranche B (2018–2020): 1,198 beneficiaries would receive ₦5.6 billion between May and July 2025.
Tranche C (2021–2024): 1,371 beneficiaries are scheduled to receive ₦8.2 billion between August and November 2025.
In addition, a total of ₦1.27 billion has been earmarked and is now being disbursed to cover housing and furniture allowances for current elected and appointed political office holders across all local government councils
Governor Yusuf emphasized that, the payments are more than just financial transactions. “They are an expression of our values that service must be respected, commitments must be honoured and leadership must be accountable,” he said.
The Governor also extended heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders, including verification teams, finance officers, oversight committees, and administrative coordinators, for their meticulous work that led to the successful execution of the exercise.
He concluded with a rallying call for continued unity and support: “Let us work together to build a more prosperous and inclusive Kano State.
With pride in our collective effort and confidence in our shared future, I hereby launch the first phase of these payments.”Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said”

As Nigerians celebrate the 2nd year anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, one major aspect of his administration that has given joy and hope to Nigerian populace is his strong will to address the challenges of inadequate power supply.
With the policy drive of the Renewed Hope initiative of the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to solarize Nigeria, stakeholders have commended the Federal Government for the approach adopted by the government to address the challenges of inadequate power supply across the power sector chain.
To further address the challenges, the Federal Government, through the Energy Commission of Nigeria ECN has remained overly committed to provide Nigerians with a more sustainable power alternative with its solarization project; which will remove over dependence on the country’s national grid that has over the years suffered collapses including attacks by criminal minded persons, vandals and insurgents.
It is therefore no wonder that Nigerians, especially stakeholders in the sector have lent their voices and support to the #10bn solar power project of the Federal Government which has been variously described as a critical step toward securing a sustainable energy future for Nigeria.
Despite criticism from a section of the public, this initiative is deserving of support as knowledgeable persons view it as a “strategic investment in sustainability, self-reliance, and universal energy access.”
With the administration entering its mid-term, “The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s power sector, including providing stable electricity and prepaid meters nationwide”.
According to Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria ECN, Nigeria’s Energy debt crisis is an issue which the federal government is working assiduously to tackle.
Only recently, the indebtedness of some federal institutions which includes the Presidential Villa, owe the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) ₦47.1 billion in unpaid bills way before the emergence of the Tinubu administration in 2023.
“Transitioning to solar energy is not just about cost-cutting; it’s about creating a model for efficiency and shielding Nigerians from rising tariffs.” Dr. Mustapha recently stated.
Global successes, according to experts reveal that renewable-driven industrial sector is the way to go in addressing power challenges in modern society.
In the opinion of many including that of Dr Abdullahi, DG of the ECN, “the Solarization project is expected to deliver significant economic and social benefits, including job creation in solar manufacturing, installation, and maintenance, while fostering innovation among Nigerian engineers and entrepreneurs as it will also reduce pressure on the national grid.”
“This is not just about powering Aso Rock; it’s about planting seeds for renewable systems to electrify rural communities, empower the underserved, and ensure energy equity.
”The initiative is part of broader reforms across Nigeria’s power value chain, from generation to distribution.” He stated.
“History will remember this project as the spark that ignited Nigeria’s energy revolution—a future where clean, affordable power is accessible to all,” he added.
“The solar initiative supports President Tinubu’s agenda to eliminate energy debt, reduce governance costs, and position Nigeria as a renewable energy leader.
“This is the pathway to uninterrupted, sustainable electricity, and the cost is minimal compared to its transformative legacy,” Dr. Abdullahi assured.
